Mihana Japanese Bistro &bar

Mihana Japanese Bistro &bar Ramen restaurant

Overview

Walking into Mihana Japanese Bistro & Bar at 10 Jericho Tpke, Commack, NY 11725, United States feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that knows exactly what it’s doing. The space balances modern Japanese design with the easy comfort of a local diner, which makes it just as good for a quick lunch as it is for a relaxed dinner with friends. I first stopped by on a busy Friday night, and despite the crowd, the service stayed smooth and genuinely friendly, something that regulars often highlight in reviews.

The menu is broad without being overwhelming, which usually signals careful planning rather than filler. You’ll find classic sushi rolls, sashimi, and hibachi-style entrees, along with kitchen dishes that lean into Japanese comfort food. One thing that stood out during my visits was how consistent everything tasted. The salmon in the nigiri had that clean, fresh flavor you expect, and the rice was properly seasoned, a detail that chefs trained in traditional Japanese methods emphasize as essential. According to culinary research shared by the Japan Sushi Association, temperature and rice balance are key indicators of quality sushi, and that attention shows up here.

I’ve watched the hibachi chefs work the grill more than once, and it’s clear they follow a practiced process rather than relying only on flair. Proteins are portioned evenly, vegetables are prepped in advance, and cooking times are tight, which keeps flavors intact. This method mirrors the efficiency-focused approach taught in many Japanese teppanyaki kitchens, where speed and precision matter as much as presentation. The result is food that’s hot, well-seasoned, and never greasy, even when the restaurant is packed.

Beyond the main dishes, the bar deserves its own moment. Japanese beer, sake, and approachable cocktails make it easy to pair drinks with whatever you order. I once asked the bartender for a recommendation with a spicy tuna roll, and the suggestion was spot-on, light enough to refresh the palate without overpowering the fish. Beverage pairing like this isn’t accidental; studies from hospitality groups such as the National Restaurant Association show that thoughtful drink options significantly improve guest satisfaction, and that philosophy clearly applies here.

What also builds trust is transparency. Staff members are open about ingredients and happy to adjust dishes for allergies or preferences, which is increasingly important as diners become more informed. While the restaurant doesn’t claim to be strictly traditional in every sense, it doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. It blends authentic techniques with American dining expectations, and that honesty comes through in both the food and the service.

Customer reviews across multiple platforms often mention reliability, and that matches my experience. Whether it was a quiet weekday dinner or a lively weekend meal, the quality stayed steady. Of course, like any popular location, wait times can stretch during peak hours, so planning ahead helps. Still, the overall experience consistently lives up to the reputation, making it a dependable choice for anyone exploring Japanese cuisine in Commack.

From the carefully structured menu to the welcoming atmosphere and attentive service, everything works together naturally. It’s the kind of place where you can introduce someone to Japanese food for the first time or satisfy a long-time craving without overthinking it, and that balance is harder to achieve than it looks.

The last business at one end of a large shopping center sadly making it somewhat invisible. Trying it out on the recommendation of some friends, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise! Clean and tidy interior with a separate bar and dining area with very comfortable seating. The staff and clients all made the visit seem relaxed and enjoyable. The food is best described by the other 5 star reviews. It is that good!

This is my partner and I’s all time favorite restaurant. The quality of the food is out of this world and the staff are so kind and helpful. We highly recommend getting one of the fish specials in which you get one fish prepared in multiple different ways. This has changed how we view sushi. Even the western food is amazing. We cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

Decided for Mothers Day, I wanted sushi. My daughter had a nice lunch. Really enjoyed the cute, clean and inviting atmosphere. Food was very delicious. We started with the lettuce wraps. Ordered 3 sushi rolls and the highlight was the Mermaid roll! Perfect combination. Our server was very pleasant and attentive as well. Highly recommend this place. Prices also very reasonable in my opinion.

Very high sushi quality. Probably the best on the island. Prices are on par with other good restaurants in Suffolk but the quality blows everyone else away. Skewers are delicious, only minor complaint could be a bit more options but each was delicious. Probably the least expensive way you're going to try Wagyu and it was delicious. No real complaints other than the table support is weird and enormous so foot room is extremely limited. Never seen a table like that before. Great service too, will definitely be back

We sat today with the waitress Ivy & the food/service was excellent! I’m always looking for a good sushi spot & this one does definitely did not disappoint. The Lobster Caviar is a MUST TRY. We’ll definitely be back!!

The food was average, but nothing negative either. However, they have a lot of employees and lack of service. It’s annoying when you have three employees at the bar hanging out and three by the front desk. It took 20 minutes to take my order, and I had to call them for basic things like water. It would be nice if they checked on the tables often. The employees seem friendly when approached but for a place that wasn’t so busy service and with many employees service was lacking .

Mihana is great! The wings are so crispy and everything was fantastic. Ivy was a great waitress and very attentive! The vibe is great too. We will be coming back often to try more of what they have to offer!
